My mom is a teacher. At the x-mas schoolplay, one of her students made a special and solo performance. He danced to MJ and had the moves just just just right!!! It was my first crush (we was kinda cute) and it made me fall in love with Michael Jackson. He then presented my mother with HIStory VHS tape.
When I got home I watched it over and over and over and over again. It was my first big impact of MJ (until then I didn't pay much attention). I moonwalked the hell out of the living room and got my baby sister to do the same in white socks.
So it began... I'm not über-fan nor casual-fan. I just can't deny his music, his legacy, his humanity... he was influential in too many aspects of society and culture.
That was it! And now I'm and avid collector of sunglasses and hats and I just thought.. "Wait... has this started subconsciously because of MJ?". I will never know but my Smooth Criminal fedoras will be always cherished.
I remember when i was very young, my mum loved Michael Jackson, so obviously i managed to hear him quite a bit, and i loved it.
I was about 6 at the time, and i stole my mums History cd to lend it to the older boy down the road that LOVED MJ. When i went over there he played black and white and told me that the beginning part of 'black and white' was him and his grandad. I believed him, and i was so scared of my mum finding out that he'd taped over her cd!!
I always believed that it was him until i was about 15 :(
